TUSK X YEAH YOU

July 10 @ 12:00 pm - 11:59 pm

£10

Tusk Music Projects, the producers of the much-loved TUSK Festival and more recent Covid-era adventures as TUSK TV and the TUSK Editions digital imprint, are delighted to announce this event that doesn’t so much celebrate as wallow in the mirk and detritus of YEAH YOU, the city’s finest free music export.

A father-daughter duo, YEAH YOU is the free-improvising twosome of Will and Freya Edmondes aka Gustav Thomas and Elvin Brandhi. The pair have progressed from endless hours of instantaneous composing and recording in their car, often using the trademarks of hiphop and dance music with abandon and aplomb, drizzled heavily with stream-of-consciousness vocal proliferations and the odd splash of autotune. Now regular fixtures on the UK and European other-music networks and increasingly revered, Yeah You just played the legendary French festival Sonic Protest with their unhinged mélange of loaded electronica and free improvisation. Their reputation has spread overseas rapidly – their next album will be on a cult Egyptian label while Elvin has also appeared on several releases by the great Ugandan label Nyege Nyege.

The open nature of their approach has led to Gustav and Elvin being enthusiastic collaborators and this will inform the nature of this event, with as many brand new collaborative sets as there are ‘straight’ performances. So joining the Duo at Live Theatre will be UK free improvisation stalwart Pat Thomas, Lebanese electronica producer Liliane Chlela, voice artist and cellist Audrey Chen, London’s legendary Bohman Brothers, Lukas Koenig, who takes interactions between percussion and technology to new levels, and the multinational trio Mopcut.

TUSK X YEAH YOU will be an all-day event using the whole of Live’s building in imaginative ways and with films, exhibitions and more still to be announced.

This event also showcases a new collaborative relationship with the city’s Live Theatre, whose new Artistic Director Jack McNamara reached out to TUSK on landing in the city and both organisations hope this is the first of several future co-productions.

And while TUSK has (just about) survived the pandemic, we are very aware that many people are still struggling so we continue with our £PayWhatYouCan policy – meaning a standard ticket of £10 but a discrete £PWYC option for those for whom that may be prohibitive plus a Solidarity Ticket option for those who feel able to pay slightly more to support this approach.
