Tusk North 2023

March 3 - March 4

TUSK Festival returns with TUSK NORTH, two days of adventurous underground and experimental music in the unique environment of Newcastle’s Lit and Phil Library. Taking place on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 March 2023, TUSK NORTH features internationally recognised artists alongside musicians from the vibrant North East scene.

Straddling the worlds of experimental, folk, chamber and early music, Laura Cannell returns to perform her multi-instrumental solo work ‘Antiphony of The Trees’. Nakul Krishnamurthy, who explores new ways of conceiving Indian Classical music at the intersection of Western Classical, experimental and electronic music traditions, unveils a new work. Celebrated artist People Like Us presents a dark and witty take on popular culture with her audio-visual collages while Edward George returns to present a live version of his illuminating radio show ‘Strangeness of Dub’. Electro-acoustic composer Marcin Pietruszewski performs his piece ‘Distortion Product Sieve’, and Wild Pop sensation Gwilly Edmondez defies expectation.

Emerging composer Ieva Dubova presents new minimalist works for solo piano, while local musicians Nagruska and SGRBWD, wrangle noises and drones. In a unique meeting of Geordie legends, The Agar Band and Drooping Finger, The AgarFinger Inexperience present a live performance of the former’s SHRINK, whilst David De Le Haye and Networking the Flight of the Monarchs bring nature to the forefront with underwater wanderings and a live networked performance.

Artist talks include Wire magazine’s Derek Walmsley in conversation with Edward George, Laura Cannell with Kirsten Gibson and Bennett Hogg, and People Like Us with Richard Elliott.
