TUSK North – March 4+5, 2022
March 4 - March 5

Tusk Music Projects, the producers of the much-loved TUSK Festival and more recent Covid-era adventures as TUSK TV and the TUSK Editions digital imprint, are delighted to announce their first live in-person event for quite some time.
TUSK North is a collaboration with Newcastle University’s International Centre For Music, DIY project TOPH and the city’s historic Literary & Philosophical Society. Tusk has formed an increasingly close relationship with the University’s ICMuS in recent years and this is the first time they have co-curated a live programme (Tusk being famously protective of their wildly ricocheting curatorial style). The result is a two-day programme that veers from Yao Bobby & Simon Grab’s noise-fired Dancehall, through London-based ensemble Apartment House’s performance of a new piece for strings and oscillator by Jim O’Rourke; the incredible Carnatic singing of Supriya Nagarajan: Edward George’s soundsystem-cum-history lesson that is the Strangeness Of Dub: Gwilly (Yeah You) Edmondez and electrifying turntablist Mariam Rezaei in a trio with operatic countertenor Larry Zazzo; the gothic black metallic intensity of Penance Stare; Bad Amputee’s classic slowcore rock and many more still to be announced.
TUSK North will use all spaces in the historic Lit&Phil building, including its beautiful library and also include installations, talks and more. Tusk will also live stream the event to its international audience, which has grown hugely since its online TUSK Virtual 14-day programme in 2020.
